Turning Off a Laptop Screen With the Power Button:

• Open Power Options. There are two ways you can do this: either right click the battery icon in your system tray and click Power Options, or open the Control Panel and click Power Options.
• Click Choose what the power buttons do.
• Under Define power buttons and turn on password protection, you should see a set of options for Power and sleep buttons and lid settings.
• For the first option, When I press the power button choose Turn off the display from the drop-down menu. If you’re using a laptop and want this feature to work whether you’re plugged in or using the laptop battery, be sure to change both options.

Other options other than turning off the display include putting your machine in Sleep or Hibernate modes or shutting down your computer. You can also choose a setting where nothing will happen if you push the power button.
